My Story

by Chuck Sharpsteen

Hi, my name is Chuck Sharpsteen and I am the author and creator of

“ChuckSharpsteen.com – Internet Network Marketing Coach.”

This is my story of how I went from $500 in my pocket to $60,000 a month and back down to nothing. And my journey back to the top.

I created this website because I love the internet. I have been using it since AOL was, well, AOL. You know, “You’ve got mail!” The fact that the answer to any question I can think of is constantly at my fingertips has always intrigued me. And trust me, I use the hell out of google.

My Story

Daddy Kisses

I’m a single father with the most wonderful 4 year old in the world. He is the reason I do everything I do. I can’t imagine my life without him.

My Story

Sweeping

I was homeschooled from 8th grade until I graduated and I grew up in a family business which was parking lot sweeping. So hard work, long hours, nights… I remember doing a job on my own when I was 16 where I worked over 24 hours straight. I came home all dirty ready to take a shower and get some rest only to find out an employee didn’t show up and I headed straight back out. That was a 38 hour workday (if that makes any sense). A full work week! Needless to say I developed a decent work ethic growing up. (picture of machines)

My Story

Flying

When I was 15 my mom took me took me to Kendall Tamiami Airport in Miami to watch a lady by the name of Linda Finch land her Lockheed Electra 10E. This being one of her stops in her flight to retrace Amelia Earhart’s flight around the world. I didn’t care much for the event, I just thought planes were cool. On the way driving out of the airport I saw a sign that said “Learn to fly for $35.”

I was like “I have that!” Well I didn’t really… But my mom said if I saved the money I could do it. I just made money by doing chores for my grandmother who lived next door and kept the money in an envelope.

Now I thought that I was really going to learn how to fly for $35. (come to think of it, I was pretty dumb for a 15 year old) hmm…. Anyways on April 1st, 1997 I ended up taking the intro flight. A beautiful 30 minute flight over to the coast of South Beach and back. That was some pretty good marketing… That sign made them probably $20k over the next 6 years. I ended up soloing at 16. Getting my private pilot’s license at 17. My commercial license at 18.

Then came college…

This is where my life changed. Not the way you’re thinking though. No going away to college with frat parties and all that fun stuff. I went to a community college. Not only that. It was the aviation department of the community college which happened to have it’s campus located at the airport I had spent the last 3 years learning to fly. No big change there. Except for one thing…

I had been put into a position I had not been in since I was 13 years old. A classroom… Full of people.

I was TERRIFIED!

I remember the first day I had to indroduce myself and I got a feeling I had never felt before. It was just normal nerves, I know that now. But back then it had never happend in all my (then) 19 years of living. I thought something was seriously wrong with me! I dwelled on it which only made it worse. I thought that I, out of every human being on the face of the earth, was the only one with this problem. I started avoiding classes and eventually quit college just for that one reason.

So I went back to work for my parents. After about three years of that I decided I wanted to start my own computer repair business. So I looked on amazon to see what people recommended for starting that type of business and I bought two books. A really big fat one on getting A+ Certified and another book that I had never heard of, would have never looked at or even ever thought of reading EVER! But I did because so many people recommended it for starting a business.

My Story

The One Minute Millionaire

The name of that book was “The One Minute Millionaire.”

I was reluctant to read it at first because I thought it sounded rediculous. But once I got into it, it changed my mindset forever. I was hooked on the entrepreneurial mindset and now had a beleif that I wasn’t destined to mediocrity and that I could create my own path in life.

I always told people that “The One Minute Millionaire” got me into the mindset but the Rich Dad series got me hooked. Over the next couple of years I continued to work for my parents and read every book that had to do with making money. I decided that what most of the weathly people had in common was Real Estate. So I wanted to invest in real estate. I’m even a proud owner of one of those Carlton Sheets’ programs My Story

Nothing was happening while I was living at home, working for my parents. I wasn’t taking action! So one night while I was working with my father I decided I was going to get away. That was the ONLY way in my mind that I was going to force myself to take action. I needed to give myself a kick in the butt. I didn’t know where I was going, I just knew I was.

I ended up settling on Denver Colorado. It had the beautiful mountains and the city all in a nice package (and a high growth potential according to Forbes Online at the time).

I drove here in a nine year old suburban filled with all my stuff and $500. When I got here I immediately looks for jobs in the real estate industry. I got one doing telemarketing for a mortgage company. I was bad. I mean really bad. I should have been closing at least 1 out of every 15. One day I had made 50 contacts and not one contract. The owner came over, looked at my paper and said “Chuck, it looks like you’re beating a dead horse here. Why don’t you come back tomorrow.”

Man that was a pretty crappy feeling. I did come back the next day though, and the day after that… and kept pounding the phones until eventually I was getting 1 out of every 10. I even became a supervisor later on.

Meanwhile…”We’re pregnant!”…Oh Sh@#!

I mean he was planned and all. I was working two jobs. One as a waiter and one as a telemarketer but I wasn’t making enough money. We were living in a basement with a roommate.

By some stroke of luck my mom calls and says they all of a sudden got a bunch of one-time jobs and asked if I wanted to come back down to Miami and do them… Hell yeah I did! So we spent two months in Miami and I made enough money to come back and keep things going while I got my Real Estate License. Finally I was going to make some real money! Or so I thought.

After I got my license it took me about 6 months to close my first transaction. I kept at it though. It was when the market was declining and other agents kept telling me if I kept going with the persistence I had I was going to be a millionaire by the time I was 30.
So I would have closings here and there but it was never really steady. I just kept listening to my mentors and kept moving along.
About a year and a half after I had gotten my license I had my first 5 figure month. Then another and another. My best month I made over $60,000! I thought it was going to last forever! At that rate I was destined to be a millionaire in no time! I probably could have been. The probalem was I was already acting like one.

Now, I won’t get into any details, but I partied. Remeber I didn’t go to high school or college. I was the goody-two-shoes growing up. And now I decided to live it up. I mean I had the money so why not?

Funny thing is all that persistence and determination I had turned into cockiness and and feeling like I was owed everything. That got me nowhere and it got me there fast.

I ended up spending myself out of my last dime and losing my self confidence, self worth, self esteem. I didn’t have any anymore. Oh and all the “friends” I had. They sure weren’t there.

I have spent the last two years pulling my life back together. Getting my self confidence back, my self worth. All of it! I learned how to love my son and put him before anything. And I mean ANYTHING!

All that was worth all the money I could ever make.

Now I’m back with the persistence, determination and passion that I had before. But, this time with a clear concience and pure heart. It’s going to be an awesome ride and you’re welcome to join. So…

…are you coming or not?

Thanks Matt,

I thought a lot about putting all of that there. But I’m not here to hide anything. Everyone has problems and everyone has the ability to work through them. When you do it’s an awesome feeling to know you have that power to change things about yourself.
