Fear Causes Hesitation, and Hesitation Will Cause Your Worst Fears to Come True

by Chuck Sharpsteen

Fear of Commitment

. . . The title say’s it all.

This is something I heard back when I was racing Motocross and BMX and it can be applied to anything in life. It’s all about commitment.

If you do not fully COMMIT, you WILL Fail!

Let’s use an obstacle like a dirt jump as an example.

Obviously, the point of a jump is to get from one side to the other, takeoff to landing. It takes a certain amount of momentum to get over the gap.

You can sit on the fence and look at the jump from the side all you want. But ain’t nuthin gonna happen until you get off your ass and get on the track.

Funny thing is the mind will play the same tricks on you on a motocross track as it will in business. When you decide to do something, you either go for it or you go home.

When an opportunity presents itself and you decide you’re going to do something you have to Go For It!

If you’re all gung-ho, pedaling like crazy up to the jump you need to keep that momentum going, no matter what is going on in your head. If you think of yourself crashing (fear) it is likely you will hesitate.

If you hesitate halfway up the takeoff of a jump you are going to crash. The hesitation slows the momentum and your ability to clear the jump successfully.

On the other hand, if you recognize that the fear is going to be there and you prepare your mind to block it out or just do it anyway, you reduce your chance of hesitation to almost nothing. And your odds of making it to the other side are a LOT better.

Here is a crappy slide I made to illustrate Fear Causes Hesitation, and Hesitation Will Cause Your Worst Fears to Come True

 So does commitment guarantee success?

Absolutely not. . .

But I can guarantee that hesitation will almost always end in failure. (Sometimes really, really painful failure)

Not only that, but how will you compete with the people that do go for it and make it?

Without the ability to act quickly and commit, you will never catch up with them.

I Refuse to Hesitate When I See Opportunity. . .

. . .because I refuse to fail.

That’s why when I came across this I jumped on it.

Check out what I’m talking about here

Just trust me and take a look at that. You’ll be glad you did.

If you see something in it, don’t hesitate. . . Unless you like a mouthful of dirt.
