How to Blog Successfully
I have been asked that question so many times in the past few weeks that I decided to write about it. This actually has a big part to do with the process. More on that in another post.
The question might not be so much how to blog successfully but “what the hell do I write about?”
I really think the big problem with getting your blog set up and trying to think of what to write is all more about a feeling of inferiority or “that’s already been done” rather than writers block.
Let’s say you’re new to the business. You’re taking all the right steps to start the attraction marketing model. You’ve got your new blog all set up and shiny and you’re just sitting there looking at a blank page, an opt-in form and a “whack ass” header wondering how to blog successfully. (I had to say that about the header because someone said that about mine. You know who you are…) ![]()
If your sitting there thinking that everything you can think of has already been written about then you’re probably right. In fact, if you’re looking to get free organic traffic and rank high for a certain keyword I guarantee you’re thinking right!
Here’s the thing though. The magical, wonderful, brilliant thing and one of the biggest keys on how to blog successfully.
It hasn’t been written by YOU!
When you’re writing a blog post you’re not writing a freaking encyclopedia. You are having a conversation with someone. And that’s exactly the way you should write it. Like you’re having a conversation with one of your prospects. I mean when you’re talking to your friends I highly doubt you’re telling them something they’ve never heard before. So should you stop talking to your friends? I don’t know, ask them.
Let’s use this as a better example. You have two friends. They both tell you the same thing, the same story, the same joke it doesn’t matter. One of them is going to stand out more and make a deeper impression with what they said than the other one. Why? Because they both are different people, they tell the story with a different tone in a different way and one of them is going to click with you. It’s not something you really think about. It just kinda happens.
So what does all this have to do with how to blog successfully?
Well, I do have a point here. If you write your blog like you were talking to someone else such as a friend or prospect then some people are going to click with you more than others. Now I know you’re probably thinking “well some people just have a gift on how to say things just right” and you’re right about that. Some people tend to appeal to a more massive audience and they will probably become more successful or learn how to blog successfully quicker than you… So what?! I know I am definitely not one of those people I just described! Trust me.
That right there is another good thing. That type of person might appeal to a more massive audience but the quality of that connection is not going to be as good. When you say something in your own way some may love it, some may hate it. The ones that love it though are REALLY going to love it. You are going to have a much stronger relationship with them. You’re going to have a much stronger connection and they are going to be a higher quality lead or team member.
So when you’re thinking about how to blog successfully don’t worry about all the other “big dogs” or “gurus” that you think are so much better than you that you shouldn’t even try. I don’t want you to ever think like that! With anything in your life! Ever! Period! Exclamation point! How to blog successfully depends on you blocking them out for a few moments while you do your thing.
